France President Emmanuel Macron says he has urged the related authorities to strip controversial Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein of his highly coveted Légion d'Honneur award.
President Macron said the remarks in a televised interview Sunday night, adding, "I wish, as these acts lack the honor, that we take all the consequences."
In France, the Légion d'Honneur is a great honor: established by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802. Weinstein won the Légion d'Honneur in 2012 for his contributions to world cinema.
Due to allegations of sexual harassment and assault which he denies, Weinstein has been axed from the company he co-founded and barred from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
